We write to you today to ask you to help us save as many lives as possible during this unprecedented crisis/epidemic in Nepal. Below is a summary of the current situation in Nepal, our immediate focus areas/current plan and a comprehensive list of essential materials urgently needed to save lives.
BACKGROUND/CURRENT SITUATION IN NEPAL
While we in the West gradually move towards “normalcy”, the Covid situation in Nepal has been spiraling out of control. The health system has collapsed with hospitals running out of basic yet essential amenities like beds and oxygen supplies. Entire families are getting infected, people are dying at homes and in the streets, the crematoriums have no spaces and family members are not able to say their final goodbyes to their loved ones. Even the government of Nepal has declared the situation as “unmanageable.” Fortunately, at Sharminub, we have not had any cases so far and all safety measures have been implemented and are being followed at Sharminub.
OUR CURRENT PLAN
As of the initial assessment conducted by the Sharminub monastic team through discussions with the local community, the immediate focus, is to help with the containment, prevention and recovery efforts. Please read details listed below:
Material Support
The following materials/items are needed urgently to support local health centers and clinics, health professionals and isolation wards treating covid patients:
- Food and clean drinking water for patients
- Deployment and support health workers and staff
- PCR testing kits
- Eye Protection & Face Shields Medicines
- Surgical masks, N95 and FFP2 or equivalent
- Pulse Oximeters
- Paracetamol
- Thermometers
- Sanitizers
- Gloves
- Gowns and Aprons
- Collection container for used equipment
Other Ways to Support
- Sharminub to support and fund health workers who visit houses to check the health condition of isolated people.
- Sharminub to support and fund local organizations providing free cooked meals to isolated people in their homes.
